Ariana Flores Amador is Head of Health, Safety and Environment at the Effluent Treatment Plant, one of the five facilities being built by Techint E&C at the mega-project in Dos Bocas. She confesses that her greatest satisfaction comes at the end of a project: "Knowing that I’ve been able to contribute from my area of expertise thanks to my personal effort and to teamwork, to make sure workers can go home safely, is immensely satisfying."

Ariana Flores Amador is 34 years old, and she is an industrial engineer by trade, and currently working as Head of Health, Safety and Environment at the Effluent Treatment Plant being built at the Dos Bocas Refinery in Mexico.

Her job is about overseeing and ensuring compliance with internal prevention procedures in order to achieve zero deviations from safety procedures on the worksite. She also monitors environmental issues and takes care of workers’ health so that they can be as productive as possible.

She took her first steps at Techint E&C in 2013, when she started working in the Quality area, as part of the Managed Labor contract for the TenarisTamsa project in Veracruz, Mexico. This was when quality was still a separate area from HSE: “However, since my background is in industrial safety, the sector head asked for me to be transferred to that department, and that’s how my career as a preventionist took off,” explains Ariana.

She’s always seen herself working for an international company, since she was at school. “Techint E&C has positively marked and shaped my career, and it’s exceeded my expectations, something that I’ve found to be characteristic of the Techint Group, as it’s genuine about promoting the professional growth of its people,” she says.

Working in the company is for Ariana synonymous with growth: "I’m always learning from my environment, from my colleagues and from the challenges that come up on a daily basis."

What she enjoys the most is interacting with people on the worksite. “I love making sure that people can work safely and that they do this out of conviction.” But her greatest satisfaction comes at the end of a project, “when I know that I’ve been able to contribute from my area of expertise thanks to my personal effort and to teamwork, to make sure workers can go home safely. That’s immensely satisfying, not only as a professional but also from a human and personal point of view,” recognizes Ariana.

Regarding the role of women within the company, she’s keen to point out that there is a greater impetus for women to occupy key positions and more gender diversity in different sectors. She claims that, “in Techint E&C, there are no barriers when it comes to the responsibilities and tasks that a woman can take on and do.”

In fact, she’s convinced that professional growth depends on the person, regardless of gender: the important thing is “to believe in yourself, to learn and develop in the areas where you have strengths and improve in those with areas of opportunity.” She also has advice for other women: “If you love what you do, put all the effort and dedication you can into it! Techint will take your as far as you want to go, the sky is the limit!”
