An alliance between education and employment

Published 23.1.2023

In the last quarter of 2022, Techint Engineering & Construction continued with its global program to attract young talent and bring them closer to the world of work. In this article, we share some of the initiatives being carried out in the North American Area.

2022 was an extremely busy year for our teams in the Northern Region, and the Human Resources crew was no exception. In the last quarter, Techint E&C participated in 15 events within the framework of its Linking with Universities program, both online and in person.

On October 4, the company took part in the Virtual Job Fair hosted by the Technological University of Mexico (UNITEC) for students on engineering degree courses at its 10 campuses. On November 17, the company was also present at the UNITEC Cuitláhuac campus in-person Employment Fair, while on November 26, Vania Espinoza, one of the company’s HR Analysts, gave a presentation on "The path to transformation and business innovation," for postgraduate students at the Ermita campus.

Furthermore, on October 8, the company took part in a Virtual Fair for graduates from the Online Latin American Technological University (UTEL). Techint E&C also helmed a stand at the Fair held at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Autonomous University of Nuevo León, to great acclaim from both students and graduates.

Monterrey Technological Institute: the Tec x 3

Techint E&C was present at different events hosted by the Monterrey Technological Institute, known as the Tec. At Company Day, this meant managing a stand on campus, where representatives handed out information about the Young Professionals program. Then, on November 11, company employees spoke at a careers workshop for recent graduates, including rounds of interview simulations with the recruitment teams from the different companies participating.

On December 7, 17 Mechanical Engineering students from the Monterrey Tec Toluca Campus were invited to visit the company's headquarters in Mexico City (CDMX), along with their studies director, where they were welcomed by Erika Chávez, Head of Talent Attraction. The visitors toured the facilities accompanied by Karen Vega, Training Coordinator, and took part in a company induction session led by Eduardo Alí Pizarro Díaz, Coordinator of the Talent Attraction area at the Techint E&C’s CDMX Headquarters. The students were also treated to a presentation given by Carlos Arturo Castillo Salinas, a Young Professional from the Architecture area, who shared his experience and the challenges he’s faced in these two years of the program. Then, Óscar Castro, the Engineering Manager of the Northern Area, gave a talk entitled "The building of the future". To wind up the session, Juan Carlos Domínguez, Head of Mechanical Equipment Design, spoke on his area of competence. “The students were extremely grateful for the interest shown by our leaders and the time they set aside in their agendas to share a little more information about what we do,” explained Chávez.

National Job Fair for labor inclusion 2022

On November 15, the 2022 National Employment Fair for labor inclusion was held in the municipality of Teapa in Tabasco, with participation by state and federal authorities, including Rodrigo Ramírez Quintana, head of the National Employment Service (SNE), and the Governor of Tabasco, Carlos Manuel Merino Campos.

Eduardo Alí Pizarro Díaz was present on behalf of Techint E&C, and emphasized the importance of these kinds of events.

Spaces such as job fairs make it possible to build bridges between job seekers and companies that, as is the case with Techint, have played a vital role as a source of recruitment to fill vacancies.” It should be noted that the Dos Bocas Refinery project in Tabasco, has created over 4,000 job opportunities over the last two years.

2022 was an extremely active year for Techint E&C in Mexico, where the HR team had to handle over 780 fortnightly vacancies for Headquarters, as well as company facilities in Monterrey, Veracruz, Paraíso and Michoacán. In this context, it’s crucial to forge alliances with educational institutions with a view to promoting the company’s talent programs and position it as one of the best places to work.
