Downstream and Petrochemical Plants

The project included building a coke naphtha hydrotreatment unit, an additional reactor for prior dienes removal, a separating tower or splitter, furnaces to be used for separating the light fraction for petrochemical naphtha from the heavy fraction for diesel, furnaces using gas burners with minimal nitrogen oxide emissions, a hydrodesulfurization unit for cracked naphtha, and the installation of a new diethalonamine unit.

Techint E&C's differential for this project stemmed from its work I one of the oldest units operated by Petrobras: despite the high risks involved, this did not affect the company’s commitment to ensuring the health and safety of the people working on the project and to protecting the environment.

Location

Inaugurated in April 1955, the RPBC is the first large refinery built by Petrobras. Today, it supplies 8% of the national production of by-products and has an installed capacity of 178,000 barrels per day.

“At that time, in the Brazilian market there was a high demand for complex equipment requiring specialized engineering. It was hard to source the right items in time. This is why Techint's credibility and experience made such a difference, as suppliers felt secure committing to the project and were able to focus on ensuring we got the deliveries we needed.”
