Sustainable Aviation Fuel in Latin America: The Role of Engineering in the New Energy Industry
Published 5.3.2026
Techint Engineering & Construction participated in the Sustainable Aviation Futures LATAM Congress, where it presented its capabilities to support the development of infrastructure related to the production of sustainable aviation fuels in the region.
Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is emerging as one of the main pillars of the energy transition in the aviation sector. Latin America has favorable conditions for the development of this industry, including the availability of raw materials, industrial capabilities, and a growing energy ecosystem.
In this context, Techint E&C took part in the Sustainable Aviation Futures LATAM Congress held in São Paulo, one of the main forums for discussing SAF development in the region. The event brought together energy companies, technology developers, investors, and public-sector representatives to analyze the regulatory, technological, and financial challenges required to scale this new industry.

During the event, Techint E&C presented its capabilities for developing projects linked to the energy transition, contributing experience in engineering, specialized teams, comprehensive project management, and the construction of complex industrial facilities.
One of the main challenges for the sector is scaling SAF production to an industrial level. In this context, Nahuel Micone, Energy Transition Manager at Techint E&C, delivered a masterclass titled “Scaling Sustainable Aviation Fuel in Latin America”, where he analyzed the main pathways to accelerate the development of this industry in the region.

In his presentation, Micone addressed the technical and commercial challenges associated with SAF production and compared two possible development models: the conversion of existing biofuel plants or the construction of new facilities specifically designed for this industry.
For his part, Robson Otoni, Business Development Sr. Manager at Techint E&C, took part in a panel on Brazil’s role in sector regulation and financing looking ahead to 2027.

“SAF is not a distant trend—it is a concrete opportunity for Latin America today. The region has the resources, technical capacity, and ecosystem to become a global production hub. Our presence at events like this reaffirms Techint E&C’s commitment to the sector and allows us to strengthen key strategic relationships to continue growing in Brazil and across the region,” said Vilson Rigon, President Brazil Region.
Among the participants in the congress were energy companies, technology developers, and investors connected to the SAF ecosystem.
Participation in events of this kind is part of Techint E&C’s strategy to support the development of new value chains associated with the energy transition, contributing its experience in engineering and the execution of industrial infrastructure for sustainable fuel projects.
