Innovation in Construction: Transforming the Future in Mexico

Published 26.6.2025

In the expansion project of the Ternium Industrial Centre (TIC) in Pesquería, Mexico, Techint E&C is driving the transformation of construction with technologies such as Liftbots, remote compactors and shackles with telemetry, which improve efficiency and safety and anticipate the future of the sector.

Techint Engineering and Construction, committed to incorporating cutting-edge technology into its operations, is implementing innovations in its operations in Mexico that raise construction to new standards of efficiency and safety. This technological approach seeks to optimise processes, facilitate complex tasks and, above all, minimise workers' exposure to risks, thus promoting the safe and efficient evolution of the construction sector.

One of the largest projects in the company's history where these innovations will be implemented is the plant in Pesquería. The remarkable introduction of these new technologies promises to revolutionise the way construction work is done.

The multiple benefits of Liftbots

Liftbots are designed for scaffolding assembly, and their use can have a significant impact on safety and productivity in construction projects. According to Sebastián Costa, Project Manager (PM) at Acería, these semi-autonomous robots enable the lifting of heavy materials and the execution of repetitive tasks at height, thereby reducing the risk of workplace accidents. Thanks to their autonomy, supervision and control can be carried out remotely, optimising time and allowing for better project planning.

‘With Liftbots, we not only minimise risks and increase productivity by reducing downtime associated with the assembly and disassembly of traditional scaffolding, but we also add metrics through the IoT, which allows real-time monitoring of these tasks that will also provide feedback to the budgeting teams,’ adds Alejandro Aguirre, Innovation Sr. Manager.

Compactors: higher quality and safety

The use of remote-controlled compactors at the TIC significantly improves quality and safety during construction. This modern technology replaces approximately ten manual vibratory rammers, offering more uniform and precise compaction, which is crucial for the stability of fillings and foundations. Operated remotely, these devices reduce workers' exposure to vibrations and intense noise, thereby improving working conditions.

Shackles with Telemetry: Innovation in Safety

The incorporation of shackles with load cells and telemetry in lifting operations ensures constant, real-time control over the applied tension, contributing significantly to the safety of manoeuvres. This type of technology makes it possible to identify overloads that could compromise structural integrity, thus preventing potential accidents.

Telemetry provides vital data to a central system, improving informed decision-making and enabling comprehensive analysis of lifting operations.

Commitment to Training and Adaptability

Abril Pérez, Construction Coordinator, emphasises that continuous staff training is essential to maximise the effectiveness of these implementations. The ability to adapt to a constantly evolving environment and anticipate market needs is essential to strengthening Techint E&C's position in the competitive Mexican market.

These technologies not only seek to optimise processes, but also to prepare the construction industry for the future, ensuring that current safety and efficiency standards are met. The transformation is underway, and the TIC in Pesquería is the perfect example of how Techint E&C drives innovation applied to its operations to improve the future of construction.
