A perspective builded by 78 years of tradition and innovation

This October marks 78 years of Techint Engineering & Construction’s presence in Brazil: a journey that began in 1947 and is defined as much by major achievements as by the company’s ability to transform complex challenges into solutions driving development across the nation.

From its earliest days in Brazil, the company has embodied ambition and strategic vision. Founded by Agostino Rocca as Companhia Técnica Internacional S.A.C.I., Techint arrived in South America in 1946 and opened its first office quarters in Brazil the following year, on Rua 7 de Abril in downtown São Paulo.
The company’s founding charter, dated October 14, 1947, marked the start of Techint E&C’s history in Brazil, a story that is deeply entwined with the nation’s industrial development. The first major project, the Santos–São Paulo pipeline, set the stage for decades of construction work throughout the country. Over the years, Techint E&C has built and laid more than 8,000 kilometers of pipelines across Brazil—around 60% of the country’s entire oil and gas network.

Since then, the company has been a driving force behind several of Brazil’s most significant engineering landmarks: the Itaipu Hydroelectric Plant, where its work on the electromechanical assembly helped to establish one of the world’s largest clean energy generators; the Catalytic Cracking Unit at the Landulpho Alves Refinery in Bahia, a milestone in the modernization of the national refining system; and Vale’s Truckless System at the S11D Complex, which replaced truck-based ore transport with conveyor belts and set a new standard for efficiency and environmental performance.

Techint E&C has also been at the forefront of major developments in the oil and gas sector, notably the FPSO P-76, an offshore production unit built for Petrobras and one of the most demanding projects in the company’s history. The fabrication and integration of the modules for the vessel took place at the Techint Offshore Unit (UOT) in Pontal do Paraná, a facility acquired in the early 1990s.

Today, the facility is being overhauled to accommodate new strategic ventures expected to generate significant value for both the local and national economy.
“We take great pride in the projects that have helped shape Brazil’s infrastructure. These works go beyond feats of engineering: they embody our enduring commitment to the country and our confidence in the skill and dedication of our teams,” says Vilson Rigon, President – Brazil Region at Techint Engineering & Construction.
Rigon notes that Brazil remains a cornerstone of the company’s global strategy and will continue to serve as a hub for growth and innovation. “Our goal is to develop and evolve responsibly, guided by our values, and to contribute to a more efficient and sustainable energy future,” he adds.
This vision is shared across the Techint Group’s global operations, with Techint E&C playing a pivotal role in large-scale international projects such as the Dos Bocas Refinery and Ternium’s new steel plant in Mexico; the desalinated water pumping systems including C20+ and SADDN in Chile, and the Vaca Muerta Oil Sur pipeline in Argentina.

At the same time, safety remains non-negotiable: more than an operational priority, it’s embedded in Techint E&C’s culture and identity. Across all projects, irrespective of their size or complexity, the safety of employees and partners takes precedence over every other objective. “The safety of our people comes above all else. No goal is ever worth risking their lives or physical integrity,” stresses Rigon.

In parallel, the company is stepping up its efforts to help lead the global shift toward a cleaner, more innovative energy sector. Initiatives and studies involving sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) and other low-carbon technologies are integral to Techint E&C’s strategy to support Brazil’s energy transition, enhancing both the sustainability and efficiency of its operations.
With nearly eight decades of history, Techint Engineering & Construction continues to look ahead with the same spirit that marked its arrival in Brazil: its steadfast commitment to excellence, innovation, and progress. From hydroelectric plants and refineries to the modernization of industrial complexes and offshore units, each project reflects a broader purpose: to build not only infrastructure, but lasting legacies for the nation and its future generations.
