Construction and pre-commissioning activities for the VMOS pipeline facilities were completed in accordance with the contractual schedule. The project was executed for the VMOS S.A. consortium, formed by Argentina’s leading energy companies, under an EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contract.

After 15 months of work, in June we achieved the Ready for Operation (RFO) status, marking a key milestone in the development of the Vaca Muerta Oil Sur (VMOS) project. This strategic infrastructure comprises an integrated system for the transportation and export of crude oil, including a 437-kilometer pipeline, terminals, and associated facilities. Once operational, it will significantly increase crude oil transportation capacity from the Neuquén Basin, enabling exports of more than 550,000 barrels per day.

“We formally completed all activities within our scope: construction, pre-commissioning, and punch-list closeout. This was achieved on schedule and in compliance with the highest quality standards,” highlighted José Ignacio Ibarra, Sr. Construction Manager.

The final activities, carried out in mid-May, included the hydrostatic testing of the section corresponding to the Río Negro River crossing using HDD, as well as the tie-in of this segment to the rest of the pipeline, thereby completing the full 437 kilometers of the system.

Reflecting on the completion, Alejandro Cardone, Project Manager, said: “Reaching this milestone as scheduled is the result of the commitment, coordination, and efforts of all teams working toward a common goal. This project also enabled us to develop local capabilities, create jobs, and strengthen our value chain by working alongside contractors and suppliers from the region. The training of our teams and the development of the companies that work with us are a fundamental part of the way we execute projects and build capabilities that endure beyond each individual project.”

At peak construction, the project mobilized more than 2,500 people, reflecting the scale of an initiative that required continuous coordination among teams, contractors, and local suppliers across the entire project route.

“The completion of this project is the result of a strategic decision we made from the outset: to build an integrated team with shared objectives, continuous communication, and a strong commitment to both technical and human excellence. The experience of the Techint SACDE Joint Venture, consolidated through four projects carried out together, enabled us to work with a high level of coordination, making it possible to achieve this milestone on schedule, with quality and safely,” concluded Ricardo Unzner, Project Manager.

Among the milestones achieved during execution, the project set a new record of 175 automatic welds completed in a single day, enabling four kilometers of pipeline to be completed in that same day.
