Techint E&C Supports a Key Milestone in the Modernization of a Strategic Power Plant in Italy

Published 7.10.2026

The Ostiglia power plant has completed the first firing of the gas turbine for its new 880 MW unit, marking one of the project’s most significant milestones ahead of its future commercial operation.

Located in the Lombardy region of northern Italy, the Ostiglia power plant has reached a major milestone in its modernization program with the successful first firing of the gas turbine for its new 880 MW unit. This test marks the first verification of the equipment’s performance under real operating conditions and represents a fundamental stage in the construction and commissioning process leading up to the plant’s future start-up.

In this project, Techint E&C serves as Owner’s Engineer, supporting TTEP Italia, one of the country’s leading private electricity generation operators. In this role, the company represents the client’s technical interests throughout project execution, providing engineering expertise, project management, and supervision services to help achieve quality, schedule, and performance objectives.

“This achievement is the result of the joint efforts of our team and the client. Throughout the project, we have contributed technical expertise, comprehensive knowledge, and proactive management focused on meeting project goals,” said Andrea Cignoli, Country Director – Italy at Techint E&C.

Infrastructure Ready for the Energy Transition

The plant expansion includes a new combined-cycle unit equipped with state-of-the-art technology, designed to achieve an efficiency level exceeding 62% and prepared to operate in the future with fuel blends containing up to 30% hydrogen alongside natural gas. These features will help reduce specific emissions and support more flexible and efficient power generation.

The project is part of Italy’s broader strategy to modernize its electricity system and supports the objectives of the country’s National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan, aimed at strengthening energy security and advancing decarburization efforts. Once operational, the new unit will have the capacity to supply electricity to more than 500,000 households.

Expertise in Complex Energy Projects

Techint E&C’s involvement in Ostiglia further strengthens the company’s experience in providing Owner’s Engineer services for highly complex energy infrastructure projects. This capability combines technical expertise, project management, and specialized client support throughout all stages of project execution.

At a time when Europe is accelerating the modernization of its energy infrastructure to improve efficiency, reduce emissions, and enhance security of supply, projects such as Ostiglia represent an opportunity to contribute technical solutions and extensive experience in the execution and management of strategic developments.
