EPC Capabilities for Mining: From Mineral Processing to Water Systems

Published 4.6.2026

With experience in integrated mining projects, desalinated water systems, pipelines, and Operation & Maintenance services, Techint E&C participates in copper, lithium, gold and other mining developments across some of the most demanding environments in Latin America.

Mining is currently facing one of its greatest challenges: growing sustainably in increasingly demanding operational, environmental and logistical contexts. In this scenario, not only is efficient process design critical to operations, but access to water and the development of reliable infrastructure have become essential factors for ensuring operational continuity.

With more than 50 years of experience in the mining industry, Techint E&C has participated in numerous mining projects involving copper, gold, silver, zinc, potash and lithium throughout Latin America. Its experience combines engineering expertise, applied innovation, execution capabilities and local presence to deliver critical infrastructure in high-altitude regions, deserts, mountain ranges, jungles and remote locations.

Techint E&C develops integrated EPC solutions for mining projects, including concentrator plants, crushing, grinding and flotation systems, material handling facilities, truck shops, industrial piping, pipelines and slurry pipelines, water systems, utilities, electrical infrastructure and civil works, integrating engineering, procurement, construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning, operation and maintenance.

Techint E&C’s mining experience includes:

  • EPC and EPCM projects for copper, gold, silver, zinc, potash and lithium.
  • Raw water and desalinated water systems for mining operations.
  • Projects executed at elevations above 4,600 meters above sea level.
  • Development of pipelines, water pipelines and slurry pipelines.
  • Mine operation and maintenance services.
  • Operations in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru.
  • Integration of engineering, construction, commissioning and maintenance services.

One of Techint E&C’s strategic areas of focus in recent years has been the development of water infrastructure for mining operations, particularly in northern Chile, where mining companies are increasingly transitioning toward more sustainable operating models based on desalinated water.

Toromocho: High-Altitude Mining in Peru

Techint E&C participated in the construction of Toromocho, an open-pit copper mine located more than 4,000 meters above sea level in the Peruvian Andes, with a workforce peak of 4,200 people. The scope included mineral processing facilities, piping, utilities and industrial infrastructure in a project characterized by significant logistical, climatic and safety challenges associated with high-altitude work and extreme operating conditions.

SADDN: Desalinated Water for Codelco

The SADDN project will supply desalinated water to the Chuquicamata, Ministro Hales and Radomiro Tomic operations. The infrastructure includes a desalination plant and a water intake and pumping system with a capacity of 840 liters per second, more than 160 kilometers of pipeline and a final elevation exceeding 3,000 meters above sea level, involving approximately 7,000 workers at peak construction.

Veladero: High-Mountain Mining Construction in Argentina

Techint E&C participated in the development of Veladero, one of Argentina’s first large-scale metal mining operations, located in the province of San Juan and developed under extreme high-altitude conditions in the Andes Mountains, at elevations exceeding 4,800 meters above sea level. The scope included construction of the mine access road, industrial infrastructure, camps, crushing systems, process plant facilities and associated services required for mine operation in an environment characterized by sub-zero temperatures and highly demanding weather conditions.

C20+: Water from the Sea to the Andes for Collahuasi

The project includes 195 kilometers of pipeline and enables the transportation of 1,110 liters per second from the coast to mining operations located at 4,600 meters above sea level, extending the life of the Collahuasi mine by 20 years.

Interconnection Project: Fast-Track Execution

This project connects the Quebrada Blanca and Collahuasi operations through a 15.2-kilometer pipeline executed in just 10 months at elevations exceeding 4,600 meters above sea level.

Pascua Lama: Binational Mining Infrastructure in the Andes

The company also participated in Pascua Lama, one of the first binational mining projects between Chile and Argentina, developed between 3,800 and 5,200 meters above sea level. The scope included process infrastructure, electrical and water systems, mineral transportation and crushing facilities, roads, tunnels, operational support works for high-altitude activities, and the construction of a Truck Shop for heavy equipment maintenance.

Operation & Maintenance in Chile

In addition to EPC projects and infrastructure systems, Techint E&C provides operation and maintenance services for the mining industry. At Minera Centinela in Chile, the company delivers specialized operation and maintenance services in critical mining processes, including crushing, grinding and flotation. Techint E&C performs major scheduled shutdowns and complex operational support activities, contributing to operational continuity, plant reliability and efficiency.

With a permanent focus on safety, quality and sustainability, the company continues to strengthen its capabilities to execute complex projects that support the growth of mining throughout Latin America.
