CERAWeek 2025: innovation and commitment to the energy future

Published 16.4.2025

The most important event in the sector, organised by S&P Global, brought together leaders, experts and officials in Houston, Texas, to discuss the challenges and opportunities of the industry. Oscar Scarpari, CEO of Techint Engineering & Construction, participated along with other key figures, reaffirming the company's vision for a more sustainable world.

The impact that artificial intelligence will have on global energy demand and the role of natural gas as a key energy source, over other decarbonisation alternatives, were some of the central topics of CERAWeek 2025. The event, considered the main international meeting of the sector, brought together leaders from around the world to discuss energy security, climate goals and technological advances. It was held from March 10 to 14 in Houston, with more than 10,000 attendees and representatives from more than 2,050 companies.

Techint Engineering & Construction's participation in CERAWeek was a key opportunity to strengthen its position in the global energy scenario. Being present at the main event of the sector worldwide not only allowed members of the company to know first-hand the trends that will mark the future of the industry, but also to interact with CEOs and key figures.

Increased international collaboration

On the first day of the event, Paolo Rocca, President and CEO of the Techint Group, participated in the panel “Global Trade and Industrial Policy: A Coming Collision?”, where he analysed the impact of the United States trade policies, the role of China in global industry and Argentina's potential as a strategic energy supplier.

Rocca called for greater international collaboration to address geopolitical and energy challenges. “What I would like to see is collaboration, where the United States leads an alliance of countries with common values and principles, to collectively address China's dominance and foster sustainable and, eventually, clean growth,” he said.

He also remarked that the Techint Group promotes a decarbonisation strategy based on efficiency and economic viability, beyond subsidies. “We invest according to the economy: when conditions allow, we move towards decarbonisation in an effective and efficient way,” he explained.

As an example, he mentioned Tenaris's global positioning as a supplier of low-carbon tubes due to the company's investment in electric arc furnaces and renewable energy projects, such as the new wind farm in Argentina.

Networking and exchange of ideas

Oscar Scarpari, CEO of Techint E&C, together with Alberto Molinero, Business Development Director in North America, Pablo Arena, Construction Coordinator in the US, and Nahuel Micone, Energy Transition Manager, were present at the event. Some of them participated in the Innovation Agora, where solutions for energy transition, digitalisation, artificial intelligence and new technologies for decarbonisation, among other topics, were presented.

“Participating in events like CERAWeek is fundamental to stay at the forefront of the challenges and opportunities in the energy sector. These spaces not only allow the exchange of ideas and innovative solutions, but also reinforce the company's strategic vision of consolidating itself as a key player in the development of the energy and Oil & Gas sector,” said Scarpari.

During the five-day CERAWeek, Techint E&C leaders also had the opportunity to exchange knowledge and generate links with companies in the sector, suppliers of specialised equipment and academics, reinforcing the company's commitment to innovation, sustainability and the global energy future.

A unified strategy of Techint Group

Other Techint Group leaders contributed their views on the sector's challenges in different panels and round tables. Máximo Vedoya, CEO of Ternium, analysed the possibilities of decarbonising the steel industry, Ricardo Markous, CEO of Tecpetrol, shared his perspective on the energy development of Latin America and the potential of Vaca Muerta, and Ricardo Ferreiro, President of Exploration & Production of Tecpetrol, highlighted the new role of Argentina as an exporting country.

The Techint Group's participation in CERAWeek 2025 reflected a unified strategy in the face of the challenges of energy transition, global trade and technological innovation. From the development of low-emission hydrogen to the implementation of artificial intelligence in drilling and project management, the Group is committed to building a more competitive and sustainable energy landscape aligned with the challenges of the future.
