Techint E&C to manage the expansion of Vinton Steel's steel mill in Texas

The company has been awarded the work to head up the expansion of the Vinton Steel mill in El Paso, Texas, USA.
The project, backed by a USD 255 million investment from the customer, marks a key step in Techint Engineering & Construction’s growth in North America, integrating technological innovation with sustainability.

The planned upgrade will take the plant’s production capacity from 250,000 to 400,000 tons of steel annually, enhancing operational efficiency while reducing environmental impact.

“This project is a major milestone in our growth strategy in North America. By integrating advanced green technologies, we're not only reinforcing our position in the U.S. market but also supporting economic development in western Texas,” emphasized Masahiro Kitada, Chairman of Vinton Steel LLC.
The official announcement was made at an event in El Paso, Texas, attended by Greg Abbott, the Governor of Texas, Masahiro Kitada, Chairman of Vinton Steel, Alejandro Maluf, President of North America Region of Techint E&C, Iván Stubelj, Sr. Project Manager, and Francesco Memoli, President & CEO of Tenova, among other industrial and state authorities.

Innovation and cutting-edge technology
As part of this process, Techint E&C will be integrating advanced industrial solutions developed by Tenova. This includes key upgrades such as the Consteel® Electric Arc Furnace (EAF), which improves energy efficiency by continuously preheating scrap, as well as a ladle metallurgy furnace for precision steel refining and a continuous casting machine to enhance product quality.
Vinton Steel will also be the first plant in the United States to adopt Tenova’s Green City Mill Flex model. This technology improves energy efficiency, lowers carbon emissions and prioritizes recycled raw materials, meeting the highest sustainability standards.
