New sustainable mining project in Chile

Techint Engineering & Construction is building an interconnected system to pump desalinated water from the Quebrada Blanca mine to the Collahuasi mine. The works should be completed in the next 12 months.
Compañía Minera Doña Inés de Collahuasi (CMDIC) has awarded Techint Engineering & Construction a contract for an interconnection project that will enable desalinated water to be pumped from the Quebrada Blanca mine to the Collahuasi mine, in the Tarapacá region in Chile, to process mineral ore.
The scope of the contract involves building a 14-km pipeline with two pumping stations and a storage pond, requiring some 650 workers at the peak of activity. The works began in June and are expected to last a year.
This is quite a challenging project, not only because of the tight deadlines involved, but also because of the important role the interconnection system will play for CMDIC, in a scenario of scarce water resources forecast as from the second quarter of 2025.
“The contract was directly awarded to our Company, which reflects the degree of trust they place in our ability to carry out quality projects and in the know-how of our teams,” said Project Manager Marcelo Quezada.
