The vehicles were used at SADDN, reaffirming the company's commitment to the sustainable development of the sector in the region.

Techint Engineering & Construction incorporated a fleet of 100% electric 4x4 vans in the Suministro de Agua Desalinizada para el Distrito Norte (SADDN) project, which will supply three large mining operations in Chile. This initiative is part of the company's efforts to lead the development towards more responsible and efficient mining in the region.

With this addition, the company estimates that each unit will avoid the emission of between 6 and 10 tons of CO₂ per year, generating a positive impact on the reduction of the project's carbon footprint and contributing significantly to the transition towards cleaner and more efficient mining.

“We took on the launch of this fleet not only as part of our commitment to the sustainability of Chilean mining, but also as an example of how we build responsibly, with innovation, quality, safety and technical capacity to face complex challenges,” explained Miguel Casquet, Logistics Manager of the project.

One of the most relevant challenges was the installation of electric chargers at strategic points of the project to ensure maximum vehicle operability. “This was a key step, and we carried it out with a great technical deployment and the know-how of our teams,” Casquet added.

Characteristics of the fleet

The fleet is made up of 10 Voltera R7 4x4 vans, a latest-generation model of the ZNA brand (alliance between Nissan and Dongfeng). Each vehicle is equipped with two electric motors that deliver a total power of 483 Hp, a range of up to 430 kilometers, and are prepared to operate in difficult terrain, at more than 3,000 meters above sea level and in extreme weather conditions.

Technical features include 4WD traction with three driving modes (Eco, Normal and Sport); five-passenger capacity; high-performance battery with extended autonomy; safety equipment with double airbag, 360° camera and rearview camera.

This initiative is added to other actions that position the SADDN Project as a reference in innovation and sustainability, reaffirming Techint E&C's leadership in the development of solutions that promote a more environmentally responsible mining industry.
