DUPLICAR Project Module II: the Techint–SACDE joint venture has completed this crucial phase ahead of time

Published 29.4.2025

The construction of Module 2 of the DUPLICAR project for Oleoductos del Valle (Oldelval)—which aims to double crude oil transport capacity from Vaca Muerta—has finished ahead of schedule and is already up and running.

Delivered under an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contract, the project involved building 254 kilometers of pipeline: 199 kilometers of 24-inch diameter (60 cm) pipe, and 55 kilometers of 30-inch diameter (76 cm) pipe, crossing the provinces of Río Negro, La Pampa, and Buenos Aires.

Teamwork played a major role in being able to complete the project early, complemented by strategies like reorganizing shifts and breaking the work into segments to keep everything moving on schedule.

The pipeline construction involved more than 16 tunneling operations and over 50 special crossings, traversing provincial roads, streams, and even rivers. The main achievement was the 850-meter crossing built under the Colorado River using horizontal directional drilling (HDD).

At the peak of project work, more than 950 people were working on site, supported by over 300 pieces of heavy machinery, including pipelayers, a double joint plant, and a loading drone, among others.

The ceremony to inaugurate the project took place at the Allen Pumping Station in Río Negro Province, an event attended by provincial and national authorities, oil company executives, and representatives of the joint venture itself.

The DUPLICAR project is billed to double Vaca Muerta’s crude oil transportation capacity, taking it from the current volume of 36,000 m³/day to 72,000 m³/day. The key enabling factor is the construction of a new oil pipeline, linking the Allen pumping station in Río Negro to the terminal station in Puerto Rosales, in the province of Buenos Aires.

We’re proud to be driving growth in Argentina’s energy sector.
