Techint E&C makes a mark in Tuxpan with the Volunteers in Action program

Published 26.8.2024

More than 40 employees, their families, and community members came together to improve the infrastructure of a primary school near the Veracruz Norte project.

A new edition of the Volunteers in Action program took place at the Escuela Primaria General Lázaro Cárdenas del Río in Tuxpan, Veracruz. Employees of Techint Engineering and Construction, along with their families, teachers, and parents from the institution, carried out maintenance, painting, cleaning, and reforestation of the school's green areas.

Diego García, Project Manager of Veracruz Norte, explained: “One of the main focuses of our community program is education because it ensures the sustainability of the places where we operate. That’s why, through the Volunteers in Action program, we engage in activities at schools and, with the same passion we put into our projects, we enhance various aspects of the cities where we work.”

In this sense, Ariana Flores, QHSE Manager, stated: “Our main motivation is to contribute to the community and leave a mark when we complete a project. We want to be able to say, ‘We were there and took the opportunity to do something that distinguishes us as a company and as individuals. We had the chance to make a positive impact, and we did.’”

Throughout the day, volunteers painted the interior and exterior of the school, performed maintenance on metalwork, rehabilitated sidewalks and green areas, carried out waterproofing work, and installed new fans in the classrooms, donated by Techint E&C.

Team unity

Mutual collaboration was key in benefiting the residents living near the Veracruz Norte project, where the company is constructing a 21-kilometer pipeline, a compressor station, and a Landfall. These will facilitate the transportation of gas from this region to Coatzacoalcos and subsequently to Paraíso, Tabasco. For Andrés Medina, Project Controls Specialist, the initiative represented “an opportunity to connect with the Techint family beyond work.”

José Luis Antonio, Road Supervisor, who attended with his wife and daughter, noted: “Techint’s values are reflected in our commitment and support for the community. This experience with my family allowed me not only to share a joint activity with them but also to convey the values that define us.”

Cristina Trujillo, daughter of María Luisa Magaña from Supplies, added: “I’m very happy to be here with my mom, having fun, chatting, and, above all, contributing to make this school a more beautiful place for the children.”

Hundreds of students benefited

These improvements will benefit over 130 students from first to sixth grade and their seven teachers and administrators, who will have renovated spaces for their school activities.

Abimael Torres, Director of the Escuela Primaria General Lázaro Cárdenas del Río, expressed his gratitude for Techint's support. “The impact is noticeable, and the children will surely feel more comfortable and pleased to see how beautifully our school has been improved,” he concluded.
