Techint Engineering & Construction carried out an improvement in the Jardín de Niños Frida Kahlo in Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán. The initiative is part of the company's commitment with the communities where it operates, promoting the active participation of its collaborators.
More than 40 volunteers joined together with a clear objective: to generate a positive impact on the community by rehabilitating the Jardín de Niños Frida Kahlo, located in Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán, Mexico. This initiative, driven by Techint Engineering and Construction in collaboration with neighbours, took place on March 29th and focused on improving the kindergarten's facilities, thus providing a safer and more functional environment for the children's development.
The participants worked on a series of improvements ranging from painting and restoring the façade to rehabilitating crucial spaces, such as the special education room, toilets and kitchen. “It is fundamental that in the early stages of education, the children have an adequate environment in optimal conditions,” said Evelyn Galicia, Human Resources Specialist.
Among the improvements made, the following stand out: the renovation of the front of the building with the name of the kindergarten and an emblematic image of Frida Kahlo, the creation of children's play areas on the floor and a commemorative mural entitled Voluntarios en Acción. This transformation aims not only to beautify the environment, but also to motivate children to learn.
Verónica Pureco Martínez, Project Human Resources Leader, underlined the positive impact on employees: “This type of programme strengthens the sense of belonging, and many express their pride in being part of a company committed to the community.”
The transformation process was enriching for both volunteers and education staff. “Participating in these programmes is rewarding. I encourage everyone to join and live this experience,” added Alejandra Miranda, Development Trainee.
Notable improvements in the special education classroom include the installation of new lighting, fans and wall repairs. The toilets were equipped with new fixtures and general maintenance was carried out throughout the kitchen.
This volunteering not only aims to improve the infrastructure, but also to encourage teamwork and solidarity among the people involved. Luis Rodríguez Jauregui, Project Manager, mentioned the positive reactions of the neighbours and the educational community. The deputy director, Socorro Soberano, was surprised and grateful for the initiative. In this sense, Soberano expressed: “Today they came to transform our kindergarten and, with it, to improve the educational experience of our children. A school in good conditions has a direct impact on their learning and development.”
The volunteering day at the Jardín de Niños Frida Kahlo reflects Techint E&C's commitment to the communities where it operates, and the positive impact that can be generated when company, collaborators and neighbours work together for a common goal.
