Volunteers in Action: Committed to making a difference in the Pesquería community
Published 14.5.2025
More than 100 people joined forces to help revamp secondary School No. 145 “Profesor José Mario Elizondo Montalvo” in Nuevo León, in Mexico.
Employees from Techint Engineering & Construction, Ternium, and Tenigal collaborated, along with students from the Roberto Rocca Technical School in Pesquería, participants from the Roberto Rocca After School program and members of the local community, to revamp secondary School No. 145 “Profesor José Mario Elizondo Montalvo”. Working side by side, they carried out refurbishments aimed at providing a better environment for both students and staff.
On Saturday, February 8, the team of volunteers spent the day cleaning, painting, and enhancing the school’s outdoor areas. They also planted native trees, helping to create a more pleasant and welcoming space for the school’s 690 students.
This effort is part of a broader commitment by the Techint Group companies to support education in the area. Alongside the volunteer work, the school has recently benefited from infrastructure upgrades, including a new science lab, a drip irrigation system, improvements to classroom areas, and the installation of a new roof designed to capture and reuse rainwater more efficiently.
Together we’re stronger
Óscar Castro, Engineering Director, emphasized the value of staying connected to the community: “All Techint Group companies are committed to supporting the development of the people and communities where we operate.”
Alejandra Fernández, Project Engineering Specialist, shared her personal perspective: “It’s about going a step further. My work is mostly digital, so this was a chance to step out of that world, to get hands-on—cleaning a school, a classroom—and to have a direct connection with one of the students in the classroom I was helping to clean. That’s when you realize it matters, when it becomes tangible.”
Thanks to the dedication of every volunteer, the day left a meaningful mark not only on the school, but also on the community—and on everyone who took part.
