Promoting technical training for women in Mexico

Techint E&C implemented a technical training program for women in Pesquería, Mexico, with the aim of strengthening skills and expanding female participation in the industrial sector.
During November, Techint Engineering & Construction delivered an exclusive technical training program for women at the Roberto Rocca Technical School in Pesquería, Nuevo León, Mexico. The initiative was designed to provide practical tools, strengthen technical skills, and prepare participants for their future integration into the Ternium steel mill project currently being built by Techint E&C, therefore contributing to the expansion of women’s participation in the industrial sector.
The program sparked strong interest in the local community: 75 applications were received, of which 42 women successfully completed the training process. The proposal included two training paths aligned with the project's needs: a welding workshop, with the participation of 22 women, and a floor mechanics and connection workshop, with another 20 participants. Both lasted 120 hours, with 70% practical and 30% theoretical content.
This approach allowed participants to familiarize themselves with industry-specific equipment, processes, and methodologies, developing technical skills in an applied learning environment.
The program was challenging, but at the same time, it was an opportunity for personal and professional growth. Most of the participants arrived with no prior experience and found the training to be a space to learn, practice, gain confidence, and chart a new career path.
“Our goal is to bring more women into this industry and foster a more equitable, inclusive, and diverse organizational culture,” explained Alejandra Miranda, Development Trainee. “We worked with the Roberto Rocca Technical School to design a program aligned with the specialties we needed. The response exceeded our expectations and showed the genuine interest of many women in transforming their professional lives.”
From a broader perspective, Vanessa Mota, Community Relations and D&I Senior Manager, emphasized that the initiative goes beyond technical training: “This program is the result of a commitment to opening spaces where each person can believe in their potential to develop and grow. These are concrete actions that help break down barriers and demonstrate that change is possible.”
The participants came from very diverse backgrounds, but with a common motivation: to transform their present and expand their opportunities. Many faced personal challenges to attend the training, reaffirming their commitment to learning and growth.
“I left a lot behind to be here, but I brought my dreams with me,” said Victoria Martínez. Paola Patlán Ruíz highlighted the internal challenge of incorporating new knowledge and reaffirming confidence: “As women, we can do it too. We are succeeding and we are backed by a company that encourages us to keep going.”
Jessica Martínez summed up the spirit of the program by imagining her professional future: successfully completing the course, achieving her goals, and joining the Techint E&C team.
With the training phase complete, the 42 women will begin their integration into the steel mill project, where they will continue to strengthen their technical skills and advance their professional development. Their incorporation represents a concrete advance in female participation in industrial trades and reinforces Techint E&C's commitment to diversity, inclusion, and the development of local talent.
These types of initiatives are part of the company's long-term vision aimed at building more diverse teams, strengthening technical capabilities, and generating a positive impact in the communities where the company operates.
