Techint E&C obtains ASME certification at the Dos Bocas Refinery

The company has notched up a key milestone for the mechanical assembly of the boilers at the Cogeneration plant in Mexico.
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) publishes a range of Standards and Certification codes that play a vital role in ensuring safety for the general public and standardize items as common as nuts and bolts. Recently, Techint E&C certified compliance with the standards required by the organization for the assembly of the Auxiliary Boiler and the three HRSG-CB-10100/200/300 Heat Recovery Steam Generator Boilers at the Cogeneration plant for the Dos Bocas Refinery project, in Paraíso, Tabasco (Mexico).
The certification was awarded by the entity following an assessment of the requirements enshrined in the 2023 ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC), held through a review and inspection process carried out by the authorized international agency Bureau Veritas.
The process included inspections and finally, the certification seals were stamped as required, part of the commissioning stage prior to generating power at the Dos Bocas Refinery.
Israel Escárcega, QHSE Sr. Manager, explained that, “We’ve learned from our experience at previous projects that we need to meet the ASME standards so that we can obtain the requisite seals for the afore-mentioned equipment. It was a great effort on the part of everyone who made sure this could happen.”
Albino Estrada León, Quality Control Inspector for ASME and QHSE, noted that, “in contractual terms, this is a major milestone for the project. Personally, it’s very significant, as we had to demonstrate compliance with the quality manual we’d adopted as well as with the applicable ASME rules. We received unreserved support from the team and all the departments taking part, enabling us to obtain the certifications. This achievement is an iron-clad guarantee for a range of aspects, such as the monitoring and reliability of the manufacturing, assembly and stamping processes for the pressure parts covered by the ASME code, as well as the associated equipment, such as the heat recoverers and auxiliary boiler making up the power island at the heart of the Cogeneration plant.”
These types of certifications are a testament to the company's high standards of quality in the development of its projects.
