Techint Engineering and Construction celebrated the milestone with the client at the “Safety of Millions” event, which brought together 350 employees and leaders at the Santa Cruz plant in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
On December 16, the LTA-Ternium project celebrated a major achievement: notching up 1 million hours without a lost-time accident. This historic milestone was announced at the “Safety of Millions” event, attended by some 350 employees and leaders from Techint Engineering and Construction and Ternium, in the auditorium at the Santa Cruz plant in Rio de Janeiro. The Long-Term Agreement (LTA) covers the provision of diversified electromechanical assembly services executed through specific Service Orders.
Maximiliano dos Santos, Project Manager from Techint E&C, emphasized the significance of the milestone, achieved in November last year during a peak workforce period with approximately 570 workers, including night shifts. “We are tackling major challenges, such as building new regenerators and replacing the converter, both critical to the plant’s operations,” he said. He singled out Techint E&C’s commitment to safety in the workplace: “It’s essential to raise awareness daily about the risks and importance of making sure that everyone returns home safely. Safety is a shared responsibility.”
César Parisi, Engineering Senior Director at Ternium in Brazil, also reaffirmed the company's commitment to safety, calling it a core, non-negotiable value. “Our goal is zero accidents, and to achieve this, we meticulously plan our tasks to prevent any kind of accident or incident. That's our commitment,” he pointed out. He stressed that while delivering high quality work is important, ensuring employee safety is paramount. “We come here to work, but we must leave the same way we arrived—safe and with the satisfaction of a job well done. Without safety, no task can be accomplished,” he concluded.
Also present at the event was Thiago de Oliveira, Business Develop Director of Techint E&C in Brazil, who celebrated the milestone of 1 million accident-free hours, emphasizing that reaching this figure is a great achievement. “This milestone is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our workers, who are the true driving force behind our success. Our responsibility to progress and hit new milestones has been reinforced by this achievement, and we have a team that’s fully equipped to meet those goals. The health and safety of everyone here is our top priority. I want to thank everyone for their commitment and remind you that safety must always remain our constant focus.”
