Quebrada Blanca 2: Sustainable development in the Chilean mining sector

Published 11.1.2022

Learn about some key details of this project being carried out by Techint E&C for one of the world’s largest copper deposits. Desalination is the key to sustainable water management.

The Quebrada Blanca copper operation is located in the Tarapacá region of Chile, which is where Techint E&C is working on the expansion of the mine.

The works are centered on building 330 km of pipelines to transport desalinated water and copper concentrate, connecting the mine with sea level.

High altitudes and the hostile terrain of the arid desert landscape far up in the Andes Mountains pose tough challenges for the more than 2,000 employees carrying out the work.

Watch this video and find out more about the project.
