Published 14.1.2025

At the end of 2024, the project reached an important milestone in its development, achieving the completion of the assembly of pipelines in the Atacama Desert, known for being the driest in the world.

Techint Engineering and Construction culminated with the welding of more than 175 kilometers of pipe, an achievement made possible by the commitment and professionalism of the team involved.

Initiated in November 2021, this mega project seeks to extend the useful life of the Compañía Minera Doña Inés de Collahuasi (CMDIC) deposit for two additional decades. This effort has stood out as one of the most complex in Techint E&C's track record in Chile, overcoming significant challenges such as moving soils and transporting equipment through difficult terrain.

Since June 2023, the team has worked hard on the welding, incorporating innovative automated welding technology. This approach has not only optimized the quality of work, but also improved production speed and reduced errors, thus meeting the company's high quality and safety standards.

Ricardo Juan, Sr. Project Manager, said: “This milestone reflects the commitment and professionalism of our team, as well as the leadership of our company in the development of projects in the Americas, highlighting our technical and constructive level.”

The project, which has been developed with great efficiency, has involved an average of 90 collaborators per shift, and has managed to join an average of 50 pipelines, using more than 13,000 pipes of 15 meters long and 44 inches in diameter.

The upcoming closure of this work marks a significant step not only for Techint E&C, but also for the mining industry in Chile, reflecting the potential of innovation and collaboration in the execution of large-scale projects.
