O&M services: the engine that keeps industry running smoothly

Published 5.3.2025

For over 20 years, Techint Engineering & Construction has been performing Operation and Maintenance tasks, efficiently and reliably optimizing assets in mining, hydrocarbons, energy, and steel. Currently, in the Andean Region, the company is leading projects such as Camisea, Minera Centinela and Campo Pendare, as well as El Tordillo and Fortín de Piedra in Argentina.

Running nonstop, cutting costs, and extending asset life are big challenges in mining, hydrocarbons, and the energy industry as a whole. O&M services keep equipment, systems, and installations running smoothly—with no surprises or disruptions that could affect production performance.

“The key thing about O&M isn’t just that it keeps things running—it’s about making sure assets perform at their best, sometimes even better than their original design,” explains Óscar Navas, Business Development Director from the Andean Region. “It’s what keeps our customers’ operations on track and true to their mission.”

O&M services provided by Techint Engineering & Construction bring together multiple disciplines—mechanical, electrical, civil, instrumentation, and process management—covering everything from corrective to preventive and predictive maintenance.

One of the key challenges in O&M is striking the right balance between efficiency and cost. And demand is rising—not just from customers, but also from communities and the authorities, responsible for regulating the exploitation of resources. The pressure to optimize operations has never been higher. “The goal is to extend asset life and profitability by cutting costs, keep operations running smoothly to sustain revenue, and boost productivity and efficiency—all while balancing community needs and protecting the environment,” says Navas.

In action: projects underway

Techint E&C has successfully worked on nearly 30 O&M projects over the last 20 years, and today, it’s leading projects in this specialty at different locations for a variety of strategic sectors:

Camisea (Peru): Since 2022, Techint E&C has been handling the comprehensive maintenance of flowlines in the Camisea project, covering the Malvinas plant and associated clusters. That’s over 180 km of flowlines winding through the Peruvian jungle, supporting Latin America’s most critical gas operation.

Minera Centinela (Chile): As of 2024, the team is ensuring the mechanical maintenance of the mine’s Copper Concentrate Plant, located 180 km from Antofagasta.

Pendare Field (Colombia): Techint E&C built the CPF (Central Processing Facility) for Tecpetrol between 2018 and 2021. It has been providing O&M services here since July 2021 in areas such as mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control, as well as for Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems; crude oil/water treatment and oil loading/unloading; and a full range of asset reliability services, along with logistics support. The company is also responsible for ensuring that the CPF is operating safely and efficiently.

With more than 30 successful projects under its belt, Techint E&C has cemented its reputation in O&M. Standout projects include Fortín de Piedra in Argentina, offshore platforms for Petrobras in Macaé in Brazil, and the Care and Maintenance of the Camisea pipelines in Peru. The company has also taken on major challenges at Minera Escondida (Chile) and Carbonser (Mexico).

These projects reinforce Techint E&C’s leadership in the region. Unlike other suppliers, the company follows through on each asset from design to maintenance and dismantling, building extensive expertise to ensure operations continue to run at peak performance level.
