Motherhood, Fatherhood and Work: Initiatives to Promote a More Inclusive Culture
Published 3.8.2026
As part of World Breastfeeding Week, Techint Engineering & Construction shares the initiatives it promotes to support mothers, fathers and families throughout parenthood, as part of its Diversity & Inclusion strategy.
Promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace means creating the conditions for people to grow professionally at every stage of life. Motherhood and fatherhood bring significant personal and family changes, so having policies that support work-life balance is essential to fostering equal opportunities and employee well-being.
With this approach, Techint Engineering & Construction promotes initiatives designed to support parenthood and facilitate the professional development of mothers and fathers. These include the Maternity Mentoring program, lactation rooms available at offices and projects, flexible work arrangements, and extended paternity leave.
Motherhood begins long before a child is born. That is why the Maternity Mentoring program supports expectant mothers from pregnancy through their return to work, providing spaces for dialogue, guidance, and practical tools to navigate this stage with greater confidence.
The initiative seeks to ease the transition into motherhood and the return to work, fostering an environment where professional development can continue alongside each person's life project.
Diana Maribel Encarnación, Instruments Design Special Engineer in Ecuador, highlighted the program’s impact on her experience:
"The mentoring program taught me that it is possible to be a mother while continuing to grow professionally, because both aspects are part of who I am. It has helped me feel more secure, empowered and confident in my abilities."
Returning to work represents a new challenge for many families. Having tools that support this transition contributes to employee well-being and promotes a healthier balance between professional and personal life.
The lactation rooms available at different offices and projects allow mothers to continue breastfeeding after returning from leave, providing an appropriate space that addresses a specific need during this stage.
These initiatives are complemented by flexible work arrangements and extended paternity leave, policies designed to support families and promote a more inclusive work experience.
For Edna Guevara, Project Engineering Sr. Principal in Mexico, having access to a lactation room made a meaningful difference during her return to the office:
"Having a lactation room made me feel that I could balance my professional and personal life. It may seem like a small detail, but it is one of those forms of support that you truly feel and appreciate."
The experiences of employees across different countries reflect that there is no single way to experience motherhood, fatherhood, or the return to work. For this reason, Techint E&C promotes policies and initiatives that address different realities and needs, helping to build a more diverse, inclusive and equitable workplace.
These actions are part of the company's Diversity & Inclusion strategy, aimed at creating equal opportunities, strengthening employee well-being, and supporting professional development throughout different stages of life. Through concrete initiatives, Techint E&C seeks to foster a culture where everyone can grow, contribute their talent, and build their career in an environment of respect, inclusion and collaboration.
