Building opportunities for future generations: Techint E&C volunteers renovated a school in Santiago Tianguistenco, Mexico

More than 100 volunteers came together on September 27 and 28 to improve the facilities at the Niños Héroes Primary School in Santiago Tianguistenco, State of Mexico.
The initiative brought together Techint Engineering and Construction employees, their families, and community members in a joint effort that reflects the company's commitment to community development and education. During two days of work, participants collaborated in repairing walls, pouring slabs, and renovating spaces, transforming the school environment into a safer and more suitable place for learning.
One of the main results was the construction of a new room that will serve as a library and classroom for children with special educational needs.
“We always seek to leave a positive mark on the communities where we develop our projects,” said Alejandra Miranda, Development Trainee. “Improving educational spaces reflects our belief that progress begins with access to quality education.”
The Niños Héroes Primary School provides education to more than 150 children, whose families are mainly engaged in farming and street vending. The project was carried out in conjunction with the Construyendo Comunidades Integrales Civil Association A.C, a nonprofit organization founded in 2008 that promotes the construction of educational spaces in collaboration with school authorities, parents, and students.
“Techint E&C sets a great example by getting involved with the community and working alongside us,” said Ariana Moreno Segura, Principal of Niños Héroes Elementary School. “This renovation not only benefits the 150 current students, but also future generations who will continue to learn in this space.”
Daniel Santiago Jiménez, Leader of the Construyendo Comunidades Integrales Civil Association A.C, commented:
“We have been collaborating with the company on various projects, especially educational ones, with the aim of providing children with decent classrooms where they can develop and build their future.”
Hands that build the future
Sixty-eight volunteers participated in the first day: 42 from Techint E&C (26 employees and 16 family members) and 26 members of the Ahuatenco community, who focused on raising, aligning, and plastering walls. On the second day, 40 people (18 from Techint and 22 from the community) joined in to pour the slab, do the final plastering, and clean up the area.
“Techint E&C is deeply committed to strengthening educational ties with schools and communities, helping to build a vision for the future for these children and for Mexico,” said Laura Rivas, Training & Development Analyst. “It was a great opportunity to work as a team and create spaces that promote better educational conditions and a more promising future.”
