Techint E&C strengthens its leadership in the Mining Sector with a new Regional Mining Division

The new regional structure strengthens Techint E&C’s position in mining by integrating engineering, business development, and execution capabilities, with a focus on copper and lithium and earlier participation throughout the project lifecycle.
Global demand for copper and other critical minerals is driving a new wave of investment across Latin America. Argentina, Chile, and Peru account for a significant share of the opportunities expected to shape the industry's growth over the coming decades.
In response to this scenario, Techint E&C has established a Mining Division focused on these three markets, led by Ricardo Juan, Mining Sr. Director. The objective is to integrate capabilities, deepen sector-specific expertise, and provide clients with a single point of contact to support the development of major mining projects across the region.
“When we analyze what lies ahead for mining, particularly copper, we see very significant projected growth. Argentina, Chile, and Peru are expected to attract substantial investment in mining projects, mainly copper and also lithium. In that context, we concluded that creating a dedicated division made sense, allowing us to concentrate capabilities, strengthen our engineering platform, and provide clients with a single point of contact,” Juan explains.

One of the main priorities of the new Division is for Techint E&C to become involved from the earliest stages of project development, even before the award of major EPC contracts. This is the purpose of ECI (Early Contractor Involvement) models, which allow contractors to participate during the study phase and collaborate with clients in defining project scope, technical alternatives, costs, and construction strategies.
This approach, already being implemented by the company in Argentina, requires a particular focus on strengthening engineering capabilities. In this regard, Juan Carlos Flores, Mining Sr. Manager, stated:
“When we become involved from the beginning, our engineering contributes to reducing project risks. By using tools such as BIM, we integrate different disciplines and anticipate decisions that have an impact on schedules, costs, and execution risks.”
The new Mining Division combines trained internal talent with professionals who bring deep sector-specific expertise. Among the recent additions is Mark Venning, Business Development Director – Mining, who has more than 40 years of experience developing mining projects across the region.
His incorporation strengthens business development efforts and relationships with clients and strategic partners, while the company also advances framework agreements with specialized firms in various mining processes.
“Mining requires partners capable of transforming a geological opportunity into an executable project. Techint E&C’s differentiator is its ability to combine sector-specific knowledge with proven engineering, construction, and project management capabilities, supporting clients from the earliest decisions through commissioning.”

The new Division builds on 50 years of mining experience and more than 70 mining projects, developed in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Peru, including process infrastructure, mineral transportation systems, water systems, pipelines, and industrial facilities.

Building on this foundation, the company aims to expand its participation in mineral processing projects while leveraging capabilities developed through other large-scale engineering and construction projects.
As part of this strategy, Techint E&C strengthened engagement with clients and industry leaders in Argentina and Peru. This year, the company participated in Expo Minera San Juan and Expomina Peru, two key forums for discussing investment opportunities and industry challenges, while showcasing its engineering and construction capabilities for mining projects across the region.
At the same time, the new Division organized a mining workshop in Chile to deepen the technical knowledge of its leaders and connect it with market opportunities. Topics included geology, resource evaluation, and processes such as flotation, leaching, and mineral transportation, along with an overview of the business and project landscape. This training helps prepare teams to understand the needs of each operation and support clients from the earliest project decisions.
With this combination of technical specialization, regional presence, and close client engagement, Techint E&C is preparing to support the next stage of mining development.
“Everything indicates that mining growth, especially in copper, will continue. If global demand doubles over the coming decades, that copper will have to be produced somewhere in the world. Argentina has the potential to be one of those places, while Chile and Peru already have highly developed mining industries. As for us, we are ready for the challenge,” concludes Juan.
